Florida Polytechnic is built on a foundation of applied STEM research. We bring interdisciplinary faculty and students together to pursue STEM education research, teaching, and outreach on broad environmental and technological topics. We’re proud to partner with institutions that make a difference in our community.
Located off of I-4 in Auburndale, SunTrax is a large-scale, cutting-edge facility dedicated to the research, development and testing of emerging transportation technologies in safe and controlled environments. The 400-acre site will include a 2.25-mile long oval track, which will provide an opportunity for high-speed testing, along with a 200-acre infield that will allow for the testing of a multitude of different technologies. Many of the opportunities are related to tolling, ITS, and automated and connected vehicles. Additionally, the entire site will be a connected environment for the testing of Vehicle-to-Infrastructure (V2I) and Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) communications.
The Florida Industrial and Phosphate Research Institute (FIPR Institute) supports phosphate-related studies to improve the environment, protect public health and increase mining and processing efficiency. Staff biologists, engineers and chemists also conduct in-house research, and the Institute supports some non-phosphate topics such as energy and the mining and processing of other minerals.
