About the Research Institutes
Applied research is more than a buzzword at Florida Polytechnic University. From classroom demonstrations to our open laboratories, we believe solutions to today’s problems are just a big idea away.
Located off of I-4 in Auburndale, SunTrax is a large-scale, cutting-edge facility dedicated to the research, development and testing of emerging transportation technologies in safe and controlled environments. The 400-acre site will include a 2.25-mile long oval track, which will provide an opportunity for high-speed testing, along with a 200-acre infield that will allow for the testing of a multitude of different technologies. Many of the opportunities are related to tolling, ITS, and automated and connected vehicles. Additionally, the entire site will be a connected environment for the testing of Vehicle-to-Infrastructure (V2I) and Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) communications.
Florida Industrial and Phosphate Research Institute
The Florida Industrial and Phosphate Research Institute (FIPR Institute) supports phosphate-related studies to improve the environment, protect public health and increase mining and processing efficiency. Staff biologists, engineers and chemists also conduct in-house research, and the Institute supports some non-phosphate topics such as energy and the mining and processing of other minerals.
