Executive Vice President and Chief Information Officer, Tech Data
Tech Data Executive Vice President and Chief Information Officer John Tonnison is responsible for the company’s worldwide innovation strategy, IT capabilities and operations. He leads a global technology team, driving innovation through Tech Data’s SAP Center of Excellence and the world-class e-business and cloud infrastructure. These technologies support the entire Tech Data enterprise, which generated more than $26.8 billion in net sales and shipped tens of millions of technology products to more than 125,000 IT reseller customers in more than 100 countries during its last fiscal year. Tonnison’s team is constantly enhancing and expanding the company’s suite of e-business services—facilitating three quarters of the company’s order activity—that closely integrate Tech Data’s powerful supply chain with the operations of vendor partners and resellers.
Tonnison joined Tech Data in 2001 as Vice President, worldwide e-business, leading the development of Tech Data’s e-business strategy and tools, growing the e-business share by 300%. He was promoted to Senior Vice President, Information Technology for the Americas, continuing to drive Tech Data’s e-business vision and taking responsibility for all business systems technology, application software, and operations in the Americas. He was named Tech Data Executive Vice President and Worldwide CIO in 2009 and most recently has led the successful implementation of SAP in the U.S., Tech Data’s largest operating business.
Prior to joining Tech Data, he held executive management positions in the U.S., United Kingdom and Germany with TSN, Ameriquest, Log 2000, Frontline Distribution and Mancos Computers. In those roles he gained substantial corporate ERP and Internet startup venture experience. Born and educated in the United Kingdom, Tonnison became a U.S. citizen in 2005.
