The field involves planning, implementing, dictating and controlling the effective flow and coordination of goods, services or information from point of origin to destination or point of consumption. The system in movement will be tracked through any inbound, outbound, internal or external movements.
Companies invest in logistical procedures in order to effectively transport goods, services or information to consumers or businesses. Logistics assists companies by increasing efficiency, reducing transportation costs and delivering products in a timely manner, exceeding customer expectations. Individuals who oversee logistical protocols most commonly graduated from a logistics degree concentration program.
What can graduates do with a logistics degree concentration?
Logistics professionals possess expertise in fleet management, warehousing, transportation economics, international trade and communications. Graduates with a logistics degree concentration can enter a range of industries, including: manufacturing, B2B, commerce, health and wellness, business, engineering, finance, sales and information technology.
Graduates can enter the field of logistics through entry-level positions such as analysts, consultants, customer service representatives, logistics salespeople, inventory coordinators or systems support technicians. Entry-level positions provide an introduction to the career field, and as graduates gain more experience, they can work their way up to jobs with more responsibilities such as senior warehouse operations manager, senior logistics manager and C-level positions including chief operating officer (COO) or chief supply chain officer (CSCO).
In addition, graduates with a logistics degree concentration will learn about operational components, systems and procedures while gaining hands-on experience in the field. To meet the growing needs of major global industries, the logistics degree concentration within the Science and Technology Management Degree program will train graduates to combine data-driven analysis with business skills. Florida Polytechnic’s curriculum is focused on hands-on learning, applied research and collaboration with industry partners.
Students are encouraged to think like entrepreneurs and pursue solutions to real-world challenges in the field of logistics, even in their freshman year. Students study the function of logistics, materials and supply chain management while learning advanced skills such as management issues in technology, engineering and technology management and Six Sigma.
In addition, students receive hands-on applied learning in 11 innovation labs, which house advanced tools that professionals use in the industry today. These technologies include a Supercomputer, 3-D printing systems and an entrepreneurship lab. These labs are instructed by faculty members who are practitioner-scholars, extending teaching beyond the classroom through mentoring and joint research.
